Finding a good meal after midnight in Houston can be challenging, especially on weeknights but you do not have to settle for fast food or cereal. Houstons got tacos, pizza, oysters, and everything in between.

24 Hour Classics

The restaurant that started the Pappas empire opened in 1967 and has been going strong ever since. Open 24/7 except Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Dot Diner serves scratch made comfort food and daily specials in classic diner fashion. Find stacks of pancakes, omelets, and slices of pie fit for a king. Over at Spanish Flowers, Friday and Saturday nights bring 24 hour Tex Mex at this Houston institution. Sizzling steak fajitas, cheesy enchiladas, and frozen margaritas keep the party going well into early morning hours.

House of Pies

Ask any Houstonian and they will tell you this is the place for pie, especially around the holidays. The Bayou Goo is a fan favorite pecan crust layered with sweet cream cheese, vanilla custard, and chocolate chunks. But the menu also tempts with waffles and juicy open faced chili cheeseburgers. The Kirby and Fuqua locations are open 24 hours.

Late Night Standouts

When a late night carne asada taco craving hits, Cantina Barba serves until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, 2am any other day. Located near White Oak Music Hall, this laid back spot slings some of the citys best margaritas alongside tacos, burgers, and burritos. Out on the back patio, you will find a secret mezcal bar tucked inside a converted shipping container. For something different, BBs Tex Orleans serves late night Texas fare with Cajun kick until 4am Thursdays through Saturdays in Montrose. Slurp down bowls of gumbo, enjoy shrimp or catfish po boys, and meaty boudin links with a daiquiri on the side in a laid back space where no one rushes you.

Deli Sandwiches & Pizza

True to its slogan, Katzs Never Kloses serves towering deli sandwiches and cheesecake milkshakes which contain an entire blended in slice of cheesecake. After a night out, nothing tastes quite as good as a platter of Katzs fried pickles. If pizza is more your speed, Market Square Pizza is always prepared for Main Street crowds, serving giant New York style slices until 3am on Fridays and Saturdays. Grab a seat at Market Square Park for people watching or call in a whole pie for sofa comfort. House specialties include Boudin and Bacon pizza.

Rice Village Late Night

When the bar scene winds down, Rice Village delivers. D and T Drive Inn hosts rotating food trucks in their outdoor area until 2am, serving everything from gourmet burgers to tacos to loaded fries. Then there is always Whataburger on Kirby Drive open 24 hours. The Honey Butter Chicken Biscuit after midnight is a Texas rite of passage.

The Takeaway

No matter what time it is, Houston has a diner waiting for you.
